Hopeful Story, April 15, 2018

When I woke up on Saturday, April 7, Gary asked me if he should be worried. My fuzzy brain couldn’t figure out why he would ask me that, and so he reminded me that I was going to learn how to “Kick the Boring Out of My Life” and he was worried that included him
.
Ann, Joan, Margaret and Rose started working almost a year ago to pull this together. The day was beautiful from start to finish! From the Easter theme on the stage and the beautifully decorated tables to the plates and napkins we used for lunch – all the little details pulled together to make the day beautiful. But that was just the surface.
The keynote speaker, Donna Carter, spoke passionately about how to kick the boring out of our lives - through education, involvement, being engaged, and getting others involved. She shared freely her story and the pain she has experienced, and how pain isn’t always bad—sometimes it’s a symptom of something that needs to dealt with. There was so much more, but if you want the full story, you'll need to get hold of a copy of her book "Kick the Boring Out of Your Life". We worshiped God with Grace & Colleen and their Unity Praise Band.
But the day was not entirely about ourselves. Several vendors set up shop in our foyer (our own Margaret Stone, painter, Durham Christian Book Store, Colleen’s Hats, Compassion International and Ten Thousand Villages). A portion from every item sold was used – not to cover expenses for the day - but for our local food bank and the Dominican Republic Pregnancy Resource Centre. Eleven Compassion children were released from poverty in Jesus’ name by the conference attendees, which means that 10% of the women who attended signed up to sponsor a child.
A day of blessing – praying, worshiping, learning, building community and reaching out to our local and global community. Do we really have to wait for two years to do it again?
Oh, and kicking Gary out was not mentioned at all during the day, so he is still around. Phew!
