Hopeful Story, March 8, 2015

“Whenever I look at it, I only see the mistakes,” Judi said this week when I asked her about our new photo directory. “And when I think about it, I only remember the frustrations.”
It was exactly a year ago when she had her first meeting about this project. After two separate photo shoots and months of editing, the 2014 edition finally arrived.
Despite some of the typos – and Judi has e-mail records of her repeated attempts to correct them – the directory is terrific. The glossy cover is artistic. The five picture collages on the opening pages give a true sense of the activities and the diversity of Hope Fellowship. The Staff page projects a friendly, fun-loving team. And the individual and family photographs turned out great, giving all of us a terrific tool to help us put names to the faces that we meet in church.
This week, our youth told their leaders that they were excited about finding themselves in some of the candid shots. It gave them a sense of belonging. That’s exactly why Judi, a pastoral elder who wants people to have a sense of belonging, went to the trouble of heading up this project.
Fortunately, it’s already out of date. I say “fortunately” because many more people have joined Hope Fellowship since the pictures were taken. That’s why each directory has a few pages for “New Members & Updates.”
I know that this project was not a solo effort. Many others helped, including Judi’s husband, Michael, who took many of the photographs that made up the collages. But Judi took responsibility for getting it done and we can thank God for the great job she did for all of us.

P.S. If you are new to our church, you can request a copy at the Info Centre. We also have 35 copies left of the 2007 photo directory at the Info Centre if you want to see how we’ve grown and how all of us have aged really well!
