Hopeful Story, March 1, 2015

When the zone coordinators arrived at Hope Fellowship’s leadership retreat last weekend they did not expect to be pitching their dreams in the Dragon’s Den. But that’s exactly what happened!
Twenty-two elders, deacons and staff members gathered at Kingfisher Bay on Stony Lake and spent Friday night worshipping, praying and watching a video about courageous conversations. On Saturday morning, the Succession Planning team presented their new church profile and pastor’s job description. Then we formed groups to help each ministry zone coordinator identify their top ministry goals.
At 3:30 p.m. four Dragons – Jordan, Reuben, Dick and Sharon – took their places. This imposing but friendly panel asked excellent questions designed to examine the fit between the proposed initiatives and our church’s vision and mission.
Joan (Children’s Zone) went first, going to bat for an addition to accommodate the anticipated growth in both our Cadets and GEMS programs. She longs for a larger space where Cadets and their counselors can leave their tools and wood working projects. Michael (Worship Zone) requested funds for television cameras and monitors so that we can show close-ups and offer both video recording and live streaming. Alice (Youth Zone) pitched the idea of a mid-week Family Night that would offer a community meal, children’s and youth ministries, and parenting courses on one convenient night. Melissa (Community Life Zone) pleaded for an industrial kitchen that would enable us to prepare food for our meals ministry and other events. Finally, Lisa, our new Service and Outreach Coordinator, shared her vision for a “Service Saturday on Steroids” with all fourteen churches in Courtice serving the community in various ways at multiple locations on the same day.
How did the Dragons respond? They were “in” for every proposal and reassured each presenter that money follows God-glorifying, neighbour-blessing visions. How did everyone else respond? We asked God to bless our dreams, strengthen our staff, and provide the one practical item that is holding back our church expansion … sewers to replace our septic system!
