Hopeful Story, February 17, 2013

As of now, there are twenty-one office bearers and zone coordinators who will be attending the Discovery Weekend from Friday evening, Feb. 22 to Saturday evening Feb. 23. They’ll be meeting at Kingfisher Bay, a spiritual retreat centre on Stony Lake (kingfisherbay.ca).
Those who are attending the weekend are demonstrating exceptional commitment as spiritual leaders. They’ll be well looked after, but each person will have to share a room with someone else. And everyone will be engaged in some very intense discussions about our church’s future challenges and opportunities.
We need your prayers for this analytical and strategic process. The powers of darkness do not like Christ’s body to do well. Our church can expect resistance as we approach the Discovery Weekend.
Thankfully, Hope Fellowship’s leaders have been matched up with prayer partners who have agreed to pray constantly this weekend for those who are going. But we need everyone to pray. As I have said before, we cannot call ourselves a praying church unless everyone is praying. So please lift up your spiritual leaders in prayer while they are up North on Friday and Saturday. Ask God to protect them and guide them.
What are my personal feelings about this process? I’m a little bit scared. I know that Jesus was never one to maintain the status quo, and I’m anxiously wondering where he will tell Hope Fellowship to focus and “Go!” But I’m also excited because any leaps of faith that we’ll be asked to make will force us to “be bold and courageous” and make us more dependent on the Lord. That’s a good thing.
After the weekend is completed, the rest of the congregation will be given several opportunities to join in the “discovery” process. What is the hoped for outcome? Several courageous proposals that we will adopt as guidelines and goals to keep us growing spiritually and numerically in the future.
So pray for us. And when you see your elders, deacons and staff next Sunday, ask them how it went. Hopefully, they’ll be excited and eager to tell you!
