Hopeful Story, September 2, 2018

It’s Sunday morning. Greeters warmly welcome people as they arrive to worship. Ushers help people find a seat. The praise team begins the opening song, leading us in worship. Together we praise our God, ask him questions, bring him our concerns, and listen for what he has to say to us. Deacons come forward and collect the offerings, and we remember that we are blessed to be blessing. Behind the scenes a sound tech is hard at work mixing the audio. A projectionist makes sure the right words are projected. The video tech records the sermon to be shared on YouTube later.
At the same time teachers in JAM City are helping kids learn and grow in their faith and nursery attendants are watching over our little ones. Someone put on the coffee pot and set out the cups so that we can enjoy at time of fellowship after the service. And a whole group of people will take care of serving the coffee and cleaning up.
When he wrote his letter to the church in Corinth, Paul aptly described the church as a body. “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work… Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.” (1 Corinthians 12:4-6, 12)
Here at Hope Fellowship Church it is beautiful to see people get involved and live into their identity as part of the body of Christ. Each person belongs. And each person has opportunity to serve in a way that fits with the gifts and passions God has given them.
As many of the programs and ministries start up again over the next few weeks, it’s the perfect time to consider what getting involved looks like for you. How might God be inviting you to use your gifts to serve?
