Hopeful Story, October 11, 2015

At this time of Thanksgiving, we as a family, have so much to be hopeful and incredibly thankful for.
Five years ago, Josiah was diagnosed with an incredibly rare form of cancer (1/100 million). At the time we had no idea how serious a state his body was in. We will never forget the evening when the head of oncology and surgery stood at the end of his bed deciding whether it was worth doing the surgery to remove the basketball sized tumour and kidney from his abdomen. We thank God for the brave and skillful surgeon who decided he was worth the risk.
What most of you don't know, however, was that our joy was quickly dashed when the oncologist team informed us that, going forward, they had no treatment to offer, and that the prognosis was very bleak for survival beyond a year. We remember asking the doctors, "If we are blessed with a miracle, when will we be able to allow ourselves to breathe again?" They said in 5 years. With the exception of a handful of people, we kept this information private from Josiah and the community in order to protect our young 13 yr old son and have him live the most normal life possible. With the help of brilliant surgeons, incredible treatment with our naturopath doctors, and the grace, healing and many miracles from our Saviour, we are now able to say that Josiah is 5 years cancer free. It is now that we are able to "breathe" a little easier.
Please continue to pray for Josiah as he is now discharged from Sick Kids Hospital and will continue to take the many treatments implemented in Switzerland.
We thank God and give Him the glory for walking along side us and giving us the strength during this journey. We thank our Christian friends and community for the thoughts, prayers and emails of encouragement. We speak often of how we have no idea how people get through similar situations without a Christian community and loving and faithful God. This disease has caused so much heartache, and there are many stories that don't have an outcome like ours. We pray for you and ask God’s blessing on your lives.
What does our son have to say? "Being a kid with a unique name growing up, I never would have thought just how important and special my name really was!" (JOSIAH means "healed by God")
