Hopeful Story, February 1, 2015

Seventy delegates from nineteen Christian Reformed Churches came to Courtice on Tuesday as Hope Fellowship took its turn hosting Classis Quinte. Classis meets three times a year to hear reports and make decisions on various ministries supported by Christian Reformed Churches from as far West as Ajax, as far East as Kingston and as far North as Peterborough and Lindsay.
The highlight of this meeting was an interview with Darren Hoogendoorn, the youth and outreach pastor at Hebron CRC. Darren, who is still taking courses at Tyndale Seminary, had asked classis to approve him as a commissioned pastor. The delegates enjoyed his good humour and authenticity, and were impressed enough with his biblical and theological knowledge to say “Wow!” when the interview was done.
At the January meeting of classis, minister and elder delegates to the annual synod of the Christian Reformed Church are also chosen. Brian, the chair of our Vision Leadership Board, was selected to go on our behalf, and from June 12 –18 he will join two hundred delegates from Canada and the United States on the campus of Dordt College in Sioux Centre, Iowa. I know that Brian is pumped about experiencing a Christian Reformed synod.
Being the host church is a big responsibility requiring many volunteers. Jim and Evelyn looked after sound and the LCD. Marie and Helen, assisted by a great team, did all the shopping and planning for the meals and snacks consumed throughout the day. We received many compliments about the food and our hospitality.
The host church is also in charge of opening devotions. Michael, Don, Lisa and Mark were able to re-arrange their work lives and formed a praise team that led us in the opening worship at 9:30 a.m. They did an amazing job, helping all of us to glorify God in song.
This is the second time that we have hosted Classis Quinte since completing our new facilities. Given the current rotation of nineteen churches meeting three times a year, we can relax until 2021 when a new generation of volunteers will step up to the plate.
