Hopeful Story, March 23, 2014

I’m a very visually oriented person in all areas of my life. I function and understand by seeing, so it was never a surprise to me that so much of my Sunday worship was done through seeing. Such things as seeing the worship band praise God in hymns, gazing at Pastor Peter’s visual aids in sermons, and watching the flags waving at the front during worship are examples of worshipping visually. These are the things that make my heart overflow with praise. But nothing draws me more to God than what the Visual Arts Team creates for every Sunday service. This is what prompted me to join the VA Team in 2008.
Over the last six years, I've worked with several wonderfully talented people to help bring together colour, texture, theme, imagery and interpretation in a way that enhances the worship experience to benefit every person that enters the sanctuary at Hope Fellowship. Projects for sermon series, Lent themes, Advent themes, guest preachers, baptisms, rentals, weddings, funerals and more are also executed by the Visual Arts Team at Hope. Each one brings new challenges for our VA Team and we always rise to the challenge! Every challenge begins with prayer and planning, and this comes with hours of debate and brainstorming before the team meets to assemble our creations. Sometimes our projects are quick and simple to set up, while others take several hours (Ask Brenda about those wire hands from February!). But this is our form of worship! It is our form of praising our Lord in the best way we know how. And it’s never a chore; only a joy.
We all worship God in our own way when we enter His house: some through singing, prayer, dancing, music, sign language, and more. But I’d like to invite you to take a moment and open your eyes next Sunday. Sure, your eyes are open in church every week, but open your eyes to see the hearts of the people of the VA Team express their praise to God through installations and creations. These items change multiple times a month, so open your eyes and hearts to worship God in a new way: with seeing.
Yolanda, Brenda and I are always open to hearing your feedback, ideas and thoughts. Seek us out and share in our worship to God!
