Hopeful Story, August 4, 2013

Last weekend, on Saturday, July 27, Alice was stunned by a surprise visit from her sister Jeni and her friend Tom, as well as her niece and nephew, Mandi and Jesse. After working a full day on Friday, they drove thirteen hours from Bowmanville and arrived in Iowa City at 8 a.m. where they stood along the side of the road with a sign that said, “We Love You, Ali.” They treated Alice to a motel on Sunday and saw her off on Monday morning, before heading back to Bowmanville where they all had to return to work on Tuesday morning. On her blog Alice wrote, “Words cannot express how much it has meant to me to have this surprise visit from my family. I have missed them very much and now they are here and can experience first hand what I have been experiencing every day. I will be sleeping with a smile on my face tonight.”
The Sea to Sea cyclists experienced several rainy days this week as they skirted Chicago and made their way to Grand Rapids, Michigan. Tonight they will be feted at Calvin College’s Van Noord Arena at a worship event that is expected to draw thousands of people. Stan, Joan, Alice and all the other cyclists will feel like victorious Olympians returning home to their cheering fans. Our own opportunity to encourage the cyclists is approaching very quickly. They will enter Canada on Wednesday, August 7 when they will stay at Sarnia Christian School. Four days later, on Sunday, August 11, everyone can welcome them at the 3 pm mass worship service at Redeemer College in Ancaster. After staying in Ajax on Monday, August 12, they will get up and ride past our church on Tuesday morning, August 13 (only nine more sleeps!). Our visual arts team is making signs, TimBits and drinks have been ordered, and we even hope to offer a Candy Bar (No, not a candy bar, but the kind of Candy Bar that is becoming the rage at weddings). All we need now is a huge contingent of people who will come out to Hope Fellowship Church from 7:00-9:00 a.m. to help serve the cyclists and put a smile on their faces with some enthusiastic clapping and cheering!
