Hopeful Story, May 19, 2013

With exactly one month to go before our three intrepid Sea to Sea cyclists fly to Los Angeles to begin their cross-continental ride, Stan, Alice and Joan have met their fund raising goals. Months of grooving, yoga-ing, New Year’s Eve dancing, chocolate almonds selling, letter writing, standing outside stores begging, and all manner of promoting netted them the required $10,000 dollars each ($30,000 total) that all Sea to Sea cyclists are required to raise to help end the cycle of poverty. Stage 1 – the fundraising stage – is done. Way to go!!
Stage 2 – the training and preparation stage – is well under way. All three are getting in longer and longer rides. They are steadily gathering all the things that they need, such as tents, folding chairs, rain gear, dishes and utensils, extra tubes and tires, personal items, etc. Most importantly, they have bought their airplane tickets to Los Angeles where they will begin the ride on June 24.
Stage 3, the actual ride will consist of nine weeks of cycling, beginning with 661 kilometres in six days through the California desert. In all, they will be cycling 6,300 kilometres, with stops in Phoenix, Rehoboth, Colorado Springs, Iowa City, Grand Rapids, Ancaster, Toronto, and Montreal.
To keep us informed, Stan has started a video spot on YouTube called 60secswithc2c. It’s a take-off on A Minute With Maxwell, a daily video in which John Maxwell, well-known pastor and leadership coach, reflects on a “word for the day.” So far, Stan has posted five spots about the following words and phrases: beautiful, stretch, tension, new to me, and support. It’s entertaining and informative, and I encourage you to check it out. Stan intends to keep 60secswithc2c going throughout the summer, giving us a great way to keep up with the tour and Hope fellowship’s three cyclists.
Although they've reached their fundraising goal, you are still encouraged to donate if you have not done so yet. Poverty is a huge problem and the tour hopes to raise $3 million dollars that will be used by agencies like World Renew. Get on board with this important effort by visiting www.seatosea.org and adding your gift to the total under Stan, Alice or Joan’s names.
