Hopeful Story, January 13, 2013

On December 5, 2005, with a $10,000 loan approved by our church’s Administrative Board, we purchased an inventory of gift cards to start the Hope Fellowship Fundraiser. That loan was paid off in less than 2 ½ years, and since then we have paid $21,000 towards our mortgage.
We are grateful for the 15-20 families that regularly purchase gift cards directly from the church office or by putting their order in with me. Thanks to their willingness to add this extra step into their shopping routine, this easy fundraiser was able to reduce the mortgage by $5,000 in 2012. Since the money goes directly towards the principle, the actual impact on the mortgage is greater than making our monthly mortgage payments.
Wouldn’t you want to be part of a fundraiser at no cost to you and let corporate companies pay down our mortgage? We hope that your answer is, “Of course. How does it work and what do I need to do?”
  So glad you asked!
Let’s start with your weekly groceries. When you buy a $100 gift card for Loblaws, $4.50 goes to the church. A $100 card for Sobeys/Freshco, Metro or M&M nets the church $4.00.
It is also possible to purchase cards for gas, movie theatres, stores like Sears, SportsChek and Chapters, or restaurants like Tim Hortons, Starbucks, Swiss Chalet, Kelseys, Montanas, Subway, and the Keg, etc.
Weekly, members of the afore-mentioned 15-20 families pick up their gifts cards for the stores, theatres or restaurants that they patronize from Evelyn in the office, Corrie, Helen or myself. They have caught the vision of this fundraiser and don’t mind the mild inconvenience of picking up vouchers before shopping or enjoying a night out.
The fact that our church mortgage is being reduced yearly through this ongoing fundraiser by a handful of households is hopeful news. Just imagine if fifty households participated and bought $500 worth of gift cards a month; we could raise $13,500 annually towards mortgage reduction!
So call one on the ladies mentioned above or we'll get back to you about delivery. Purchase gift cards from Hope Fellowship as part of your weekly routine and see our mortgage drop!
