Hopeful Story, December 30, 2012

It’s always nice to have quieter days, especially during “giving” season as we have lots of donations to put away and organize for when it is needed. When Nancy came in, we were excited to see her! She had been on the prayer chain.
She had recently been diagnosed with flesh-eating disease. Although she was mobile now, she was still on intravenous and hobbled in with her little son and her pole on wheels. He had been ill too. What a relief that they both looked great! She sank onto the sofa to rest and shared what had been happening in her treatment since she was released from the hospital. She thanked us for our prayers.
During Nancy’s visit, a new client walked in. She was young and timid. She came up to the desk and asked if she could schedule her abortion. We explained to her that that was not what we did and we took her up to the intake room on the second floor where we could talk quietly. She explained that she had already made up her mind—there was nothing to discuss. She was in school, the father did not know she was pregnant and her parents would go ballistic if they knew. She had no choice—this was her only option. Anything else would ruin her life. She was very resolute and so we just asked if we could put her on the prayer chain as the decision she was making would have serious consequences for her and was a very important one, not to be taken lightly. With tears and frustration, she went out into the cold. Once Nancy left, we prayed for this young frightened woman believing that God can change hearts and minds to choose life even in the most hopeless looking circumstances and at the very last minute.
Always remembering the message of Christmas—that life and hope comes when and where we least expect it!
