Hopeful Story, March 13, 2016

Seventeen youth and their parents have booked flights to build a house this summer for a family in the Dominican Republic. They are paying their own way with personal fundraising efforts and savings. But the cost of the house - $5,000 U.S. ($7,000 Cdn) – had to be raised separately. In her October staff report, Alice wrote, "It will be exciting to see what happens with this." This week she reported that $8,817 Cdn. has been raised to date.
How was this amount raised? Through five successful fundraisers.
Evelyn raised $369.59 by holding a 10,000 Villages Christmas sale which sold $4000 dollars worth of merchandise.
Nicole, Heidi, and Michelle, with the involvement of parents and youth, raised $425 by giving parents a free morning to clean their house, go on a breakfast date or to go shopping while their children were entertained with crafts, games and movies. A similar event may be offered again around Mother's day.
The War Room movie night, led by Paul and Nicole, raised $1900. Those who came were inspired by the movie and by the youth who want to go on this mission project.
The Valentines Dance (Feb 13th), a fun event led by the Saturday morning Men's Bible Study Group, brought in $4300. Approximately 100 people attended the dance and competed for the many donated silent auction items.
Finally, the Pancake Breakfast drew 60-80 people who raised a total of $1792.
These five events have been an opportunity for members of Hope Fellowship to connect with others and support the youth, parents and leaders of HSM in their goal to help the Samaritan Foundation change one family’s life.
What is Alice’s response to this successful fundraising campaign? “It exceeded any expectations that I could have imagined,” she said enthusiastically. “We can all CELEBRATE this! Yippeee Yahoo!!”
The Raising Hope team will be in the Dominican Republic from July 12-19. Any monies above the required $7,000 target will be used for transportation while in the D.R. and the cost of an interpreter.
