Hopeful Story, March 29, 2015

Ten years after the first Sea to Sea Bicycle Tour across Canada, Sea to Sea is set to ride again. This year World Renew is offering a six day ride (June 29-July 4) in Ontario and a ten day ride (July 29-August 8) in Alberta. Both require a $500 U.S. ($566 Cdn) deposit and a minimum of $2000 through fundraising.
The Sea to Sea East tour will begin and end at Redeemer University in Ancaster and include overnight stays in Guelph, Woodbridge, Hamilton, Niagara Falls, Dunnville and Brampton. According to the Sea to Sea website, “participants will learn about ministries fighting poverty in each region, visit local churches, proclaim God's redemptive work through Christ, ride along Lake Ontario, the Welland Canal, Niagara Falls, Lake Erie and the beautiful farm country of southern Ontario. The terrain is fairly flat with rolling hills and riders will average 61 miles (98 km) per day.”
The Sea to Sea West tour will begin in Jasper, Alberta and end on the east side of Glacier National Park. It will include overnights in Jasper, campgrounds on the Icefields Parkway, Banff, Radium Hot Springs, Wasa Lake, Kikomun Creek, Dickey Lake and West Glacier. Participants will learn about God's creation, ministries fighting poverty, visit local churches, proclaim God's redemptive work through Christ and ride through disappearing glaciers while keeping an eye out for bears! The tour will average about 58 miles (93 km) and 3,000 feet (914 m) of climbing per day.” A Christian school will pick up participants at the Edmonton airport and return them to the Calgary airport.
The previous three summer-long Sea to Sea tours in 2005, 2008 and 2013 have raised $5 million dollars for poverty related programs. Another large Sea to Sea is in the works. This year, however, World Renew is praying for a minimum of 100 cyclists between these shorter East and West tours.
What do you say? Is this your year to get a taste of Sea to Sea and do your part in fighting poverty while experiencing God’s world and Christ’s community in a whole new way?
