Hopeful Story, April 20, 2014

After months of planning and work, the day finally arrived. The speaker travelled safely from Grand Rapids, the musicians from the west end of Toronto, family and friends had helped transform the sanctuary, the tech team had everything set up, food was prepared—and then the ladies arrived. Close to 200 women filled our sanctuary last Saturday to sing, to laugh, to cry, and to draw closer to God and to each other.
Unity Band led the day with enthusiastic worship, asking God to “Set Your church on fire, Win this nation back, Change the atmosphere, Build Your kingdom here, We pray.” (Rend Collective Experiment, Build Your Kingdom)
Deb Mantel, our speaker “has a passion for helping God reach women with His intimate love for them. As she shares her story and music with women in different churches, she continually sees God at work bringing encouragement and comfort to women who are hurting and hungry for more of God”. (www.debmantel.com) She told us her life story, filled with both tragedy and hope. She encouraged us in our walk, telling us that we need to unclutter our spirits, our bodies and our physical space. As she spoke of the struggles in her own life, it gave us permission to acknowledge that there are things in our own lives that we need to work on—to unclutter and make beautiful.
The chance to spend a day with friends, old and new, to not worry about housework, taking care of family, a day to recharge and refresh spirit, mind and body, was a blessing to all who took the time to come.
Joan, Ann, Rose and Margaret, thank you for putting this day together. We are already looking forward to the next Women’s Conference!
