Hopeful Story, February 2, 2014

Have you ever stopped to consider what goes into preparing a Sunday morning service? The first people show up here before 7:30 a.m. Our sound guys are here early to make sure that everything is ready for the praise team. The praise team comes at 7:30 to warm up, after rehearsing during the week. Pastor Peter and Marja are here not long after that to make sure everything is ready—from coffee to opening doors to connecting with the praise team and the worship leader. Coffee people come next. The next time your pour yourself a cup of coffee after the service, think of Marie who faithfully orders our direct trade coffee and those who come early to start it and those who stay late to clean it up. LCD people come early too, to make sure everything is ready to go. Volunteers in our children’s ministries are also here well beyond the time most of us spend here.
Then we come and worship God together. At 9:00 and again at 11:00. Sometimes we grumble when the service goes 10 minutes longer than we think it should. After all, we have plans for after the service! We enjoy a cup of coffee and some social time and go home. But the praise team, the LCD person, the sound guy and Pastor Peter prepare to do it all over again for the second service and a new group of people come prepared to serve coffee, teach JAM City or JAM World or volunteer in the nursery.
By 1:00 p.m. usually everything is finished and everyone is ready to go home. Some of us have been here for close to 6 hours! And that’s not a one-time thing. For Pastor Peter and Marja it’s a weekly event. For our praise teams, our sound guys, our LCD people, it’s a regularly scheduled event that happens once every 3 or 4 weeks.
So the next time you see Aart, Doug, Emilios, Jim or Paul, thank them for their service at the sound board. If you happen to be talking to Craig, Rod, Crystal, Mike or Amanda and Andrea, (and the people on their teams) let them know their leadership is valued. Let Tracey, Gary, Jake and Dick know you are grateful for the work they do. And if you come across Pastor Peter and Marja, let them know that you can’t thank God enough for them and all they do for Hope Fellowship.
