Hopeful Story, January 12, 2014

In July, Christina Reid, one of Hope Fellowship’s young adults, will pack her bag and head out for an “eleven countries in eleven months” missions trip. It is organized by an Atlanta, Georgia based organization called “Adventures in Missions.” And what an adventure it will be for this new Christian who was baptized at our church less than a year ago!
According to Christina, her small group of fellow missionaries “will set up camps in tents, walk to fetch their water, give up showering for days or even weeks and experience what life is like with little to no money and possessions” as they volunteer in some of the world’s saddest slums. The countries that she will visit include Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Thailand, Cambodia, Japan, Malaysia, Swaziland, Botswana and South Africa. With local churches she will work with women and children trapped in the sex trade, teach English to poor children and volunteer in orphanages.
We want Christina to feel the support of Hope Fellowship Church. That’s why we endorsed the recent Mzz G fundraising concert. And that’s why Marja and I made a donation in her name to Adventures in Missions earlier this week.
Next week I will preach my third and final “Money Matters” message. It will focus on giving. As we think about that topic together, I would like to challenge you to also make out a cheque in U.S. dollars to “Adventures In Missions” and write Christina Reid on the memo line. Then send it to her!
With God’s help and our financial and prayerful support, Christina should be able to reach her goal of $16,285, the amount she needs to fund her missions trip. Let’s do what we can to let her know that her church family is behind her all the way!
