Hopeful Story, March 10, 2013

Testimonies about God’s work in our lives are often in our Sunday services. On Wednesday night, they were heard in the Youth Room and in the Prayer Room.
Lauren, one of our new youth leaders, talked to our high school students about her recent four month long YWAM (Youth With A Mission) trip to Belize. For Lauren, this trip was a life changer. Her testimony is very inspirational and those who heard it are probably wondering how they can have a similar experience. What did she say? I can’t tell you; I wasn't there. What I do know is that a date is being arranged for her to share her story with the entire congregation. And then we’ll all hear how God has worked in and through her life.
So what was I doing, if not listening to Lauren? Listening to several moving testimonials by some of the participants in my Winter New Members Class who shared their dramatic God-stories with the pastoral elders in the safety of the prayer room. It was wonderful to hear each person talk about the challenges that they have faced, how they came to faith, and what the grace of God through Jesus Christ meant to them. Will the rest of us get to hear their stories? Absolutely. On Sunday, May 26, when the students of the Fall, Winter and Spring New Members Classes will profess their faith and/or be baptized.
Speaking of New Members Classes, the Spring Class is set to begin on Wednesday, March 20. I look forward to spending time with another group of people of all ages who are willing to explore the Christian faith or make a stand for Jesus.
In the meantime, we all have a story to tell, not just in the sanctuary, youth room or prayer room, but wherever we find ourselves. God is at work in all of our lives, and talking about that with others is the best way to bring others into a living relationship with Jesus Christ.
