Hopeful Story, Aug 19, 2012

On Monday, July 30th at 8:45 am ten high school students (and four adults) entered into the St. Jane Francis Catholic School. Waiting for them were 60 students from the Seeds of Hope Day Camp. With only four student volunteers who “knew the ropes” from last year, there was some trepidation and nervousness.
Fast-forward to 12:00 pm that same day: Simon was jumping rope with some Gr. 2 girls, Jake had about 4 kids hanging off him, Colleen was having a lively conversation with the birthday girl, Andrew was playing a game of keep away with a young camper, Justine and Kelsey were seated on the floor with about five girls each braiding a section of their hair, Jon was mastering the Hula Hoop, Matthew, Holden and Jacob were competing in an intense game of Bump, Peter was giving a piggy back ride, Alexis had completed several games of Connect 4 and was now helping Joan prepare for the afternoon craft, and Alice had proven her worth at a game of basketball. I sat back with my camera, taking it all in, enjoying the gift that is the Seeds of Hope Day Camp and witnessing God’s loving arms surrounding each person in the room.
It truly is a blessing to see the youth of our church step out in service but Seeds of Hope is more than just helping out. What make this Service Trip unique is that the youth lead, not just for a song or two but for the whole day, from worship and classroom bible study to large group games and crafts. They lead, they love, they grow and they shine.
God’s love is greater that the pain and suffering that often surrounds the Jane and Finch area. Seeds of Hope provides a safe haven for children to experience God’s unconditional love and grow in knowledge of Him. What a wonderful opportunity, we were truly blessed to be a part of it.
