YOUTH: Door2Door4Hope
Halloween is one day of the year that I’m sure many parents wish didn’t even exist; a day most youth wish they were still young enough to go trick or treating; and a day where the theme of fear runs rampant throughout the world. But have no fear because the youth of Hope Fellowship have a completely different view of Halloween. They see October 31st as a time to engage their community and bless many neighbours
.
This year the HSM Youth Group handed out roughly 650 paper bags & flyers in the Courtice neighbourhood as part of the Door2Door4Hope food drive. They asked our community to donate non-perishable food items on Halloween instead of the typical tricks or treats (although I think it’s been a long time since anybody has received a trick instead of a treat on Halloween! HAHA) As the 31st rolled around, the kids set out going door to door and hope was alive as our community strongly responded to the call put out by our youth. Our group of kids was one of four youth groups that collected food this year on behalf of the East Durham Youth Network, and they alone collected just over 1300 lbs of food for our local food banks.
Collectively, the four groups received just over 3000lbs of food!
The youth are truly making a difference in the lives of our neighbours who can’t always support themselves or their families, scaring away hunger one meal at a time, and walking out one of the foundational values at Hope Fellowship: that we are Blessed 2B a Blessing! So next time you see a youth kicking his or her boots around the church, thank them for being that blessing, encourage them to continue being the hands and feet of Jesus in our community, and ask them how you can get involved next year to help make an even bigger impact. Halloween doesn’t have to be a day of fear, it can easily be a day of hope and blessing, with a little help by many hands. Thanks HSM Youth, y’all rock!

Note: Several people stopped by the church to drop off bags of groceries after Halloween
