December 28, 2016 saw the arrival of Ghada and her grandchildren. They have joined Ghada’s daughter Reem and children in their temporary home in Bowmanville. We are thankful that they are reunited as a family group and that they have had opportunity to connect with Feras and Shahla and their extended family in Canada. Feras and Shahla are becoming comfortable with walking and taking the bus and have even visited Reem and family in Bowmanville on their own.
Feras hopes to start English classes on a full-time basis this week and Shahla has already made a presentation in English. Reem will join them in English classes this week. We hope to have the children join together at Charles Bowman School. Feras’ support team is exploring the possibility of Feras volunteering with Habitat for Humanity or other opportunities to connect with his interest and past experience in the trades and electrical work.
The children have had opportunity for playdates, craft making, swimming and an outing to Joey’s PlayWorld in Bowmanville with participants in the MOPS program. They are looking forward to more snow and ice and we’re on the lookout for ice skates for all.
Many of us have been treated to the wonderful hospitality of our newcomers and introduced to new foods. We’re thankful for cell phones, iPads, and hand gestures that help facilitate communication.
You may remember that we also have co-sponsored Jordan’s grandparents and we are still awaiting their travel clearance. A number of Jordan and Dana’s family members have arrived recently and that leaves the grandparents on their own. Please pray for their health and safe arrival in Canada. Pray also for all those who involved with the newcomers. We are so thankful for the amazing job they are doing in visiting, securing needed items, budgeting, shopping, appointments, and supporting in any way needed.
